How can we prevent corn from getting moldy?
The storage of corn has strict requirements on the environment. If the environment does not meet the requirements, the corn will be mildewed. Once the corn is mildewed, aflatoxin will be produced, which cannot be eaten. Therefore, large grain stations or farms will do a good job in corn environmental testing and will be equipped with large corn dryers to dry corn after it is wet.
How to store to reduce mildew?
In fact, during the storage process of corn, avoid excessive moisture content. The water content should generally be controlled at about 14%; the second is to avoid the clarity of the product; the third is to avoid getting wet; the fourth is to avoid being polluted by pesticides and fertilizers; the fifth is to avoid the harm of mice. In addition, the temperature and humidity in the corn pile should be checked frequently. Once problems are found, they should be solved in time.
What steps can be taken to prevent corn from getting moldy?
- The first is dry precipitation. It can be exposed to the sun or dried, the water content is below 12.5%, and the temperature is about 20-25 °C.
- Second, remove impurities and clean food. Before entering the warehouse, screen out the poorly mature grains, broken grains, cob fragments, corn coats (bran crumbs), and sand fragments to ensure that the grains are clean.
- Third, control pests. In the process of harvesting and drying corn, larvae, and eggs of beetles such as moth and butterfly pests and weevil are often present, which can be eliminated by sieving and fumigation. Fumigation can choose chloropicrin or aluminum phosphide fumigation, with low cost and good effect. But it is not suitable to use chloropicrin for the fumigation of corn.
- Fourth, ensure proper storage conditions. First, the warehouse should have moisture-proof, heat insulation, airtight ventilation, insect-proof and rodent-proof properties; second, the relative humidity in the warehouse should be controlled at about 65%; third, pay attention to the storage temperature. Usually, the moisture content is lower than 13°C, and the temperature does not exceed 30°C; the storage temperature of dried corn kernels should not exceed 50°C.
How does the grain station dry corn?
There is a lot of corn in the grain station. If the grain is damp or too much moisture is detected, it will be dried. Generally, a drying tower is used. The dryer uses low temperature and high wind speed for processing. It can be used to dry corn seeds, and the germination rate of corn seeds after drying will not be affected.
